I have almost $30,000 saved and I have a fear of being poor and having to move back in my parents'. By next spring I want to have near $40,000.

I make only $15.50/hr plus $60/week for helping out at my parent's business on Saturdays... I am looking for another job for more money and permanent because I've been a temp for a year... My boyfriend makes around $500-900/week depending on his job. We plan to move out together next summer hopefully. Planning for an apartment $650-750 one bedroom, eat out once a week...

It sound like, combined, you two make more than enough to rent a decent 1BR in Columbus. Most people don't have anything saved up, let alone 30k. As long as you have decent credit, you should be fine.

Wow! Admire your ability to faithfully save so responsibly. Continue to save and make your preparations based on continued research. A smart move, well timed and planned ahead makes all the difference in the world, and you are batting a 1000 so far. Good Luck!

A tough question. It's like asking how much should we save before having a baby. Well, I'd never have had kids. Haha. Sometimes one just has to do it. First month, last month rent and a deposit and rental insurance...seems like you have that. We had 1k in savings and just winged it. I always managed to budget in for savings and fun, but sometimes sacrifices were made if an unexpected expense came up. I always made a budget and tried not to live beyond our means. If the salary increased, so did our savings.
You will know when you're ready. It us good to hear your parents support you and that you save while living at home. I know many kids who don't. Kudos!
Good luck!

Default Thanks

Thank you for responses. Im just not sure how much money would go into furniture like sofas, dining tables, kitchen appliances, washer and dryer. Seems like a lot but I could see it going gone quick. Not to forget moving in, trucks, etc. I'm just a bit of a worry wart. Perfect timing though, I got a $1 raise yesterday! Still not hired permanently after one year so I'm searching for a better job.
