Does anyone know how to put an interactive Excel table on the desktop? I need it to be able to be instantly updated any time I make a change to the table. It doesn't have to be Excel, any program that allows me to make a table is fine. I understand I can take a screenshot of it and just use it as my desktop background, but I'm hoping for an easier way and still, one that updates automatically. Also, a widget, or gadget, whatever you call them things, would be fine also. I've tried looking through the popular spots for widgets though and haven't been able to find anything like what I need.

The folks over on the computer forum are excellent at answering these. You may want to ask them or ask for the post to be moved to that area. That is where I go when I have computer related questions and have always gotten solid helpful answers.

Thanks Glory. I'll try that.

Can you export/save the table as a .html document?

not sure about Vista or Win7 but in XP you can use a .html document as background.

When you wanted to update you'd open your excel document and save and overwrite the .html document.

If not export to Word and save as .html

---edit-------

hmm , I'm testing this and it's not updating as direct background. You need to go "Customize Desktop" instead. Right click and selct refresh when update it.

interesting question.

Can you be more specific about what you're trying to achieve?

You know how you can dock something to your desktop, like a calendar, weather gadget, etc? Here's an example http://www.xemico.com/adc/two-months...p-calendar.jpg

With the calendar in the link above, it is docked to my desktop and I can interact with it just by double-clicking it and once I make a change, it is instantly updated on my desktop also.

I want to be able to do the same thing with an Excel table, or spreadsheet if that's what it's called. I have some data that I would like to be constantly displayed on my desktop. It will need to be updated almost daily so I need it to be interactive.

I was wondering about that also. I would need to have my settings switched to "Active Desktop" for that, yeah?

I'm not sure. I've never heard of that before but just looked it up. At first glance, it doesn't seem like it will do what I want, but I'll have to check it out more in depth tomorrow when I'm not so tired. Whatever it is, it looks neat. I'm such a software junkie, I'm surprised my computer still even runs.
