I'm looking for a very simple, basic calendar/day-planner program. The specific feature I'm interested in is some sort of reminder window that pops up on my screen showing me what I have scheduled for that day....or maybe a flashing icon in the taskbar prompting me to check the calendar. Windows 7, which came pre-installed on my laptop, doesn't have anything. Anyone know of a decent free program that will do that for me? Thanks!

Some of the popular e-mail client applications have these features you are looking for but in case you prefer a standalone application, ClickTray Calendar is not to bad and it is a freeware. I am sure others might be able to suggest better ones since this is not my forte.

Looks like a winner to me! Seems to offer exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the suggestion....I'll definitely be checking it out!

If you use a smartphone, and it supports ActiveSync, I'd think about setting up a Google calendar and let the phone sync to it. That way your calendar and reminders are always with you.

You might check Mozilla Lightning or Sunbird. I downloaded it last weekend, but haven't messed with it so I don't know what type of notification features are embedded.

Vista came with a nice Calender but they removed it for Windows 7. Here it is:

Google calendar. Will send you emails or text messages as reminders, can be accessed any where you can access the internet, can be shared with others, or not, etc. etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Definitely going to check them out to see which one works best. I do have Windows Live Mail, and just looked at the calendar last night. It seems to have the feature I want, so I may just go with that. But I'll still look at some other ones. I just want something that's going to pop up on my screen (or at least flash in my taskbar) and shouts "Hey, you have something planned for today - don't forget!" LOL!

Lightbulb Reminder Fox

Hi, insight! I have a cool feature that I use with Firefox. It's free and it's called Reminder Fox. It has a little icon just above the clock in my system tray so I have easy access. If I have things in the list, it will show a couple of them in the same area. If I have asked for a reminder, it pops up and stays up until I dismiss it. Here's the link: ReminderFox- The simple reminder application for Firefox
