I'll use two lines as examples.
column A column B column C
line 1 45.75 85.75
line 2 66.00 12.50

I need the number in column B to be "subtracted" from the number in column A.
Line one, the number that would go in column C would be (40.00)
Line two, the number that would go in column C would be 53.50

I was told that there is a way to get Excel to show a negative number as (40.00) and not as -40.00.

How to subtract the number in column B, from the number in column A?
I'd take each line, one calculation at a time.

Thanks.

Right click on the cell, column or row and click "Format Cells..."

That worked for getting the -45.00 to be (45.00)

Now I need to be able to subtract a number in cell B, from a number in cell A, even when B is a larger number than A.

Example:
line 1 cell A is 33.00
line 1 cell B is 40.00
I need the program to subtract the 40.00 from the 33.00 with the result being (7.00) in column C.
Right click and format, does not seem to show how.

Line one in cell A is A1, line 1 cell b is B1

Click the cell where you want the answer to be. In the box type =SUM(A1-B1)

Similarly, if you wanted to add, type =SUM(A1+B1)

If you want a range, type =SUM(A2:A7) to add up A2, A3, A4, A5, A6 and A7.
