I had a very old( 9 years) old beater computer that had AOL on it. It was AOL version 6.0. I just used the account to get email and chat online when I felt like it. It wasn't my main ISP.
Long story short, the computer came down with a terminal virus and it being so old I just junked it and bought a new one. Windows 7, IE 7, latest AOL, yada yad yada.
But when I tried to get back to the chat rooms the new er version of AOL had something called AIM. I don't do face book or twitter or any of those social networking sites. It said AIM doesn't have chats anymore. So a month ago I was able to get into AOL chatrooms( and so were a lot of other people apparently) and the chat rooms were usually pretty full. Not like they were years ago, but I figured that was due to AOL's declining user base.
I've googledit and can't get an easy clear answer on how to access those old chat rooms. Am I missing something or do I need to download a different version of AOL than what I have on the new computer?

Good question, I've wondered this too. I do know a lot of the people in the chat room are bots so be careful if you do interact with any.

Old post I know, but I read somewhere that due to the numerous child predators that would lurk the chat boards, there was a public outcry and most ISP's did away with them.

Interesting, I used to frequent chat boards and did the instant messenger thing from 2001 until about 2005.

I do miss the old chats... made some long time friends- why did they remove them? as for predators, right now there are out of country chat rooms where these kids are going and that where the trouble starts

Lightbulb *

Here is a list of all the chatroom names

http://web.archive.org/web/200503031...v/winchat.html

Right now I am in LAWANDORDER

aim:GoChat?RoomName=Law+and+Order

To get to a room just take the URL you find for the room such as

http://web.archive.org/web/200502190...=Law+and+Order

And take everything off BEFORE THE "AIM:" and then paste that into your address bar

aim:GoChat?RoomName=Law+and+Order

If using AOL software, just go to the top line word "Community" and scroll down to chat room listings

I found about 3 or 4 people in "chat" last night

aim:GoChat?RoomName=Chat

It makes me nervous being there!!!!!! (Everyone there can see your IM handle (Who knows what they might do with it!!))
