I looked at iTunes for movies, and as one example - Star Trek [the 2010 movie] an older movie in HD - was selling for $20! - Too expensive! I know nothing about the format, bit rate, screen size of iTunes movies... or their size. But I have never bought an iTunes MP3 because back in 2006 I heard their bit rate was a pathetic 128 kbps sampling. So all of my MP3 were burned at varying high quality bit rates from my CD collection. Sometimes I feel like getting rid of my cds but I keep them to play on my hifi stereo set through my NAD cd player sometimes. Nowadays I prefer listening to music off ipod to stereo, or from my hifi computer setup.
Anyway, if movies are too expensive... then that's why people resort to pirating them. This is what happens in the Philippines a lot. Many typical Filipinos earn only 12000 to 25000 pesos A MONTH. So a legal DVD would cost them 900 to 1000 pesos. Pirated DVDs there used to come from China through customs and they'd cost from 40 to 100 pesos. You can get a high quality tin can dvd for 75 pesos. Well, back in 2004 dvd pirating was so common and rampant. Then they passed laws against them and now you can't buy pirated dvds and software from the best pirated shopping market in Manila, - Greenhills. Greenhills is good for counterfeit watches, shoes, purses, jewelry, etc. Got counterfeit Vans slip ons for 550 pesos / $12 or so, current pair is lasting a year and doing good. Got great counterfeit purses too.
So anyway a new mall great for pirated dvds popped in in Quezon City... it's Circle C. I visited it last year and bought a TON of dvds for 40 to 75 pesos... But the fame of this place got it in trouble... the secretary or so to the President of the Philippines was photographed shopping pirated tin can dvds and exposed through the newspapers and news. So now they busted that place and maybe it's hard to buy dvds from there... I'm asking my cousin to buy Thor and Transformers : Dark of the Moon for 75 pesos each from there.
So now if I can't get Philippine dvds, I was thinking is there an affordable online dvd store that sell digital formats? Otherwise, if Netflix streaming had every movie in existence on demand then I would not bother owning any dvds and I'd just stream them. I don't want to deal with the clutter of disks and cases... takes too much space. And I often watch movies while I'm processing and archiving my emails on computer, so I very rarely watch movies by dvds or bluray on a high end TV system - I don't need that anymore. I prefer having my movie collection on hard drive, but the problem now is you have to have movie backups or your toast.
Look at Amazon stream and it's too expensive for streaming rental... Like The Brother's Grimm for $2.99 for 24 hr streaming... Netflix streaming rules. Any ot6her cheap streaming places or places to buy digital movies?
Or else I know Americans pirate movies a lot too. They torrent them or burn movie rentals... My coworker did that.
The only bootleg copies I buy are from the Philippines. In America I don't buy bootleg dvd copies. I know how they bootleg them with DVD Cloner or so. One time I went to the laundrymat and I saw a Mexican selling bootleg copied dvds for $3 to $5 or so. American bootleg copies are too expensive at $3+. But I used to go to Swap A Rama Chicago Flea Market 5 years ago and they would sell cheap porn dvds for $1 each. And now that doesn't exist anymore because that cheap porn can't compete with free internet porn. Philippine bootleg dvds are 40 to 75 pesos or $1 to $1.42 US equivalent - now that's cheap and they come with a nice custom case - they are high quality bootlegs.
Otherwise I was asking if you people knew cheap affordable movie streaming sites where you can stream a latest movie for $1, or maybe buy a digital copy for $8 max. - That's cheap and affordable enough or else I wouldn't bother.

As you know I don't condone pirating but the OP's point is probably the fundamental thing wrong with the media corporations. My mother bought one of those Kindles and some of the books are nearly the same cost as buying a physical copy.
They place too much value on many of these downloads/discs and then there is roadblocks like region coding. If you live somewhere that has been blocked out for legitimate copy by region coding what do you think people are going to do? If you're going to make people jump through 6 million hoops, charge an arm and leg, have a crappy product and severely limit the products portability some of them are just going to say **** it and download the free copy just out of frustration.

Unless they somehow manage to screw it up a bootleg is going to be exact copy of original. Truthfully the only quality issue there might be is disc quality. In some cases they are better copies, bootleggers have been known to remove a lot of the crap at the beginning they make you sit through and lift other restrictions like not being able to fast forward through the crap. There is one instance I recall where it was mentioned they actually fixed an error in the menu of original disc.
