A new Google computer has come out. I already have a laptop thats good, but would this be an affordable 2nd computer to have?
I realize buying something like this, you run the risk on relying on just Google for your needs; your storage space and may make changes in the future to charge a person. But for toying with it, not that bad?

the only down side i see is that you (apparently) need internet access to use it

Some of the in-browser apps can now be used offline.

There's a thread on the chromebook - I had one and hated it so returned it.
