I have a lot of PDF's on my pc. I recently had to reinstall adobe reader because I reformatted my PC.

Now that I reinstalled/downloaded adobe it's showing the file type as CGI files for my most recent PDF's that I've downloaded. The ones that have always been on my computer still say Adobe as the file type.

What's the difference here? Am I okay with keeping the data correct? I am downloading important files and don't want to worry about something happening in the future to the files.

Thanks

These files are presumably all from one website that are .cgi?

.cgi is a server script. If they were all downloaded from one site what has most likely happened is that .cgi script is used to serve .pdf files. It's failing to execute and you are being served the script itself as plain text. You can check the file sizes of all your recent downloads. If they are all the same that is what is happening. You'd have ro contact the site owner and let them know what the issue is. There is nothing you can do on your end.

I tried downloading the file again. This time I clicked "open" instead of save. Then once it was opened I went to SAVE AS and saved the file that way. When I did that it worked as normal.

The file size for both were the same.

You can open it though and it opens as you would expect and you can read the file in acrobat reader?

Are these all from the same site that want to save as .cgi extension or from any site?

Yes it opens the same and looks the same once opened.

Yes, from the same site. Don't seem to be having the problem anymore. It was from my banks website.
