Is it just me or does it seem that the pop up blocker on Google Chrome is worthless? I seem to be getting a lot of junk that should be blocked. Is it that the advertisers have worked around the blockers. I am not sure if it is better with Firefox. I thank you for your responses.

I rarely ever get popups, but then again I rarely go to sites that use popups.

These are not porn sites I am talking about. Sites like Club Lexus and City-Data which I used to never have problems with. I am wondering if the advertisers are getting more ingenious as to avoiding pop up blockers.

I'm wondering if you're infected with conduit BS or something similar. Cause I'm gonna bet 10 imaginary dollars that you totally are.

Run malwarebytes or something similar, reset browser settings, and try it again. I bet it goes away.

Agree... I don't get any popups on City-Data.

I am bringing up this thread again for help. My son has a new Alienware laptop. He is getting tons of pop ups even though we set up pop up blockers. He is using Windows 8. I tried to run Malwarebytes. First I couldn't even download the file but after I uninstalled Google Chrome, the file was able to download. But now the computer won't let me run it. It says "this app can't run on your PC,"

Any suggestions please?

it prevents separate popup windows, it does not prevent the more recent pop-up javascript prompts which appear after say 20 seconds, grey out the page you are reading, asking you to 'like' this or 'sign up' for that... for that you need to use 'noscript' if they bother you enough.
