My current OS is Windows Vista. I can't buy a new computer right now.

Is it a lot of trouble to upgrade to 8 without buying a new computer? Or even Windows 7.

Also, does this mean I'll have to get a whole new Microsoft Office upgrade as well?

Most people tend to like 7 & not 8...why is that?

Also, how much money are we talking here to upgrade?

I'm not too tech-savvy. Any info you can give me will be appreciated!

If its working for you, why would you want to upgrade now? Vista isnt THAT old, LOL!! You would not have to upgrade your copy of MS Office, but you might have to reinstall it. The box for the new operating system will have instructions on how to install the "upgrade."

For some work-at-home computer projects I have to do, I will NEED Windows 7 or 8 as a requirement.

Regarding the reinstallation of Microsoft Windows, in which I have 2007, I don't think I ever had the software. My old employer installed it for us years ago. SO I don't have the actual CD-ROM for it.

Any other info?

You can upgrade without reinstalling it, but that's not usually recommended.

Thanks guys. I'll choose 7 since that's all I need & I hear that people don't like 8.

I already know I have the right amount of RAM, etc.

Just make sure you purchase a retail copy (full or upgrade) unless you are purchasing it with a computer. OEM licenses for Windows 7 cannot be used on another computer.

Some people prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8 because Windows 8 is moving in the direction of touchscreen devices, like tablets and smartphones. That makes it clumsier to use on a conventional desktop.

If people realized that just because a conventional desktop has a touchscreen these days, it doesn't mean that it is the best way to interact with Windows. Stick to the keyboard and mouse when you can since that's what Windows 8 is good at. It's touchscreen capabilities (even on a tablet) is quite lacking.

I love my Microsoft Trackball Mouse, it has been 6 years since I have had it!

I am on Vista Home Premium now,and was thinking of upgrading to Windows 7, but all I do is use my home PC to pay bills online surf the web, and print off of the printer every few months.

I had XP before Vista, and that was pretty good, before I wanted the newest version!

I want to switch to windows 7 home premium, but I am too non tech savvy to buy the upgrade and too cheap to buy a new tower.
