Google has put its controversial eyewear on sale to the public for the first time today.
The firm is offering the 'explorer edition', the $1500 test version of the eyewear, for general sale for the first time.
It is believed the firm wants to increase the number of people people using the hardware - and potentially clear its inventory for the 'real' consumer version.
It appears the one-day public sale of Google Glass was a success.
In a post on social network Google+, the company says "things are moving really fast" on Glass sales. "We're happy to see so many new faces (and frames) in the Explorer Program."
Google Glass was available Tuesday only in five colors, but according to the Glass website, the Cotton white version sold out.
I wasn't that impressed with it on a daily basis. But it's definitely worth picking up just to experience it and learn from it. Especially if you work in technology. I picked one up because I'm a technology enthusiast.
If technology is not your thing, then maybe $1500 is a bit much. But for the enthusiasts and those who work/study in the field, the price is just low enough to make it a given. The best apps will come with greater adoption.
Of course people will buy them. That doesn't mean they're a good idea. Like texting they will cause a lot of accidents. Wait 'til the streets are full of stoners with Google glasses.
