Yesterday I went to get on my laptop and discovered my virus protection, which Ive been using for years (security essentials), was gone. Along with about 3 other items I keep on my desktop screen. Fast forward, I tried installing AVG, okay, got that far. But now my laptop is doing strange stuff. And these little purple square things at the bottom of my screen seem to multiply till I scroll over them, then they disappear, when I try to get on to my fb, I get a bunch of (what appears to be ) Chinese writing, till I hit the refresh button, then fb page comes on. I'll try to get a pic of those little squares and post it....

I don't know what it is. But as a start, I'd try TDSS Killer TDSSKiller Free Download | Rootkit Remova | Kaspersky Lab US

and Malwarebytes https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Those are for Windows. What OS is on your machine? What browser? There was a Firefox problem a while back http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...52831&start=15

OS is Windows (7 I would guess by the screenshot), computer is an HP.

The suggestions offered above are a good place to start. I don't recognize that icon.

I usually use Windows, my Firefox doesn't seem to have a problem. I did uninstall that little purple symbol thing, had something to do with remote, it said, and that seemed to cut the multiple box issue but still, in Windows, when I open fb, it starts out as a bunch of little numbers, symbols, across the whole page, if I hit the refresh button they go away and my normal fb comes on. Again, my Firefox doesn't appear to have any problems....that I can see.....
Thanks for the input, everyone. :-)

Yes, it's always much easier to switch to a new operating system you know nothing about rather than solve a minor problem with the one you're familiar with
