I do this all the time.

Control+P opens the printer window...
then open the pdf feature...
then save.

Easy-peasy.
Except when it isn't.
Like now.

What setting have I somehow inadvertently changed?
What do I do?

thx

You're going to have to give more info about the problem than this.
What were you expecting to see? What is/is not happening? What OS?

Did you have something like PDFCreator installed before?

The common process is not creating the pdf copy of the word doc.

Okayyyyy, but what were you expecting to see? What EXACTLY is/is not happening?

Is it that the pdf button isn't there?
Is it that the option to save to pdf is greyed out?
Is it when you save, no pdf is actually saved?
Is it when you save, you get the spinning wheel and it never stops?

Being verbose in describing the problem really helps.

The ability to create PDFs is built into the Mac OS. Things I would try, one at a time, in descending order, to fix this:

- Restart the computer.
- Run Disk First Aid and choose Permission Repair
- Reinstall the OS from DVD (Unlike Windows, you can install the OS over top of itself and be reasonably sure nothing will break.)

That feature is so integral to the OS that it's probably going to be fixed with a Restart. I doubt you'll have to resort to the other two options.

On mine, at least, the PDF creator is a PRINTER choice. I see that your Brother printer is showing. Try selecting printers and see if there's a PDF option. Hope it helps.

Agree with others - more info would help.

In the screen shot provided, what happens when you select "save as pdf"? Does it simply not respond? Pop an error message?

When the print menu opens you need to select a PDF printer. Go to the Destination section and select your PDF printer. If you do not have one try CutePDF - Convert to PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Save PDF Forms, Edit PDF easily.. It is a free download. Once installed you will see it in your print menu where you select the printer you want to use.

PDF printing is supported natively in OS X, so no need to use 3rd party software.
