thanks for the response, I've already replaced the battery. I should have mentioned that.
If you've replaced the battery and it does the same thing, then the motherboard has a short and unless you can find someone who can solder it is not economical to repair. Use the laptop as a desktop and purchase another one if portability is needed.
thanks again for the response. Let's assume I'm slightly (only slightly) more knowledgable than an average user. What point should I be reflowing on the motherboard? Or would replacing the motherboard do it? Or is this a function of the power board?
I'm confused. It restarts when you 'plug the battery in'? As in you remove the battery? And then attach it again?
If this is correct: don't do that. There's no need to take the battery out.
Whenever I have power going to the laptop it runs fine, the minute I plug the battery in the laptop resets.
Anyone ever experience something like this?
Not sure what you mean by reset. I assume you are going through the start up routine when you switch to the battery and everything works fine after that.
No idea what is wrong but for my two cents.
Does the computer have a built in battery on the mother board that could be faulty? This could be true of an older computer. You can try replacing.
Lets assume the problem is software. I would go back to a restore point when you did not have the problem.
My Laptop resets anytime the battery is installed.
Don't do that.
My thoughts exactly!
It seemed too obvious, so I didn't want to post saying:
"You are not supposed to detach or insert your battery when the AC power is plugged in".
IF you use it as a desktop for most of the time it is actually better to run it without the battery. Only AC power will preserve the battery for when you actually need it. They do have a shelf life however just like all other batteries. I do this with a laptop that I use as a HTPC.
