This system had Windows Live Essentials 2011 but that program was un-installed to get the 2012 version. That failed with some error so can we remove all Windows Live files in the registry?

"Unless it's broke. don;t try and fix it"

Messing around in the registry should be left to people that know what they are doing and even then most of them won't touch it unless they have to.

Try free version of CCleaner. If they can be removed this program will remove.

I like CCleaner but you need to be very careful with the registry cleaner, again if isn't broke don't try and fix it.

Agreed with Coalman. Contrary to common belief, even a messed up registry doesn't actually slow your PC down. It's not like it loads every time Windows does. It does technically load, but not like the old batch files. It doesn't get read line by line. It's more of reference for your PC's brain, not a command line executable.
