I've tried everything and was on the phone with Brothers for an hour. It'll cost $130 for my computer guy to look at it maybe he'll fix it or should I just buy another printer?
I bought another printer. The printer is getting the wifi signal but the PC cannot "find" the new printer. Is it then a PC problem? PC is 3 years old all-in-one $300 HP.
Have you been using this printer online for 5-years - and now changed your network or router? Is the printer simply not able to find your network and/or vice-versa? - What did the Brother Rep. say the problem was? (I've found their online service people to be quite reliable).
If you otherwise bought a 5-year old printer and now find that it doesn't work on your WI-FI network, the likelihood is there is something wrong with the printer --
Based on today's high repair costs and low printer prices, they have pretty much become a disposable item. (Color lasers are even more of an issue. Some replace the printer when they discover the high cost of multiple toner cartridges).

the printer gets the signal it's the pc that cannot find/read/locate the new (and old) printer. I was on the phone with Brothers over an hour. Is there something in the PC that could fail and cause this???

You need to have the new printer's driver in the computer, and then set the network to recognize the printer. I apologize for not knowing how to do that on a PC, just a Macintosh. But in the Mac I have to open a folder with the Printers and choose the right one, or just add the new printer driver to the list of printers (need to use the USB cable to do this).
I connect the wireless printer to the computer using the USB cable, install the printer's software and use this software to setup the printer with the network, once the printer is recognized by the computer via USB, I change the printer's network settings to Wi-Fi, and disconnect the USB cable. In other words, follow the instructions in the manual, or just the manufacturer's instructions at their webpage.
Whenever you buy a new router, you have to options: re-use the previous network settings (including router's password), or create a new set of settings. If you choose the later, then you will have to allow for the computer, printer, and everything else that shares the network (even the smart TV), to use the router's password to connect to the network. But if you re-use the old settings and password, then everything will work as before.
Some printers include a "Wizard" app on their screens that allows you to connect it to the network from the printer itself, without using a USB cable. Regardless, go to the Windows setup if you have a PC: http://support.brother.com/g/b/faqen...aq00002794_025

Did you do the initial setup with the use of the USB cable?
