Wondering if folks here have any recommendations for lower cost printer ink.
This review names Costco's Refill Service as their top rec, but for various reasons, that isn't going to work for me. So hoping to find other decent choices. Just need black printing at home, nothing fancy.
Over the years, I've frequently bought both black laser cartridges and ink jet refills on ebay for about one-fifth of the OEM price ... and have had few problems.
I ordered a refill kit for $6.99 incl. shipping. Sounds like a fun project. Youtube video comments reveal that this method doesn't always work, but its a cheap experiment to try.
I went with a black only Lazer printer a few years ago, and a separate flatbed scanner if copies needed to be made. You can buy color lazers but much more expensive. Told hubby and kid if they want could color to go to a place that can print it out for them. Much more cost effective than ink jet. I also had gone through numerous inkjet printers because of nozzels getting clogged and couldn't clear, and one printer ruined because refilled cartridge was defective and leaked into printer ruining it at a crucial time. Had to go to a 24 hours Walmart to get new printer for something needed the next day..NO MORE INKJETS For me.
Its funny, my HP inkjet printer is so old I cannot even remember when I bought it. It has to be at least 12 years old, but probably even longer. Its the HP Deskjet 3650.

When buying a printer, I will check the ink prices before buying. In some cases, the ink costs half as much as the printer. I saw one "all-in-one" that was $99, the ink $49.
Refilling is messy but also, some have electronics in the cartridge that tells the printer that it has been emptied and will not work when refilled.
I have a Canon Pixma color printer that was about $75. The ink refill 5 pack used to cost me $20, but now it’s down to $10.
I always check the ink prices before buying a printer too.
