Well thats atleast one good decision... personally, I still can't stand Vista. Bought two machines, came preloaded with Vista - it didn't last a week. The fact that OpenGL is now interpreted through DirectX10 ruins AutoCAD usage, which is the only reason I use windows in the first place.

I bought a core 2 duo machine last year with Vista installed and haven't had any problems with it. Are all the people having problms using older hardware or AMD?

No. Matter of fact, I bought this machine this year. Considering it runs AutoCAD, I loaded it up with 3 gigs of ram, and a nice nvidia card to go with it.
I still think Vista ran like a one legged blind dog that gets the shakes.

Which version of Autocad are you running? I have ACA (Autocad Architecture) 2008 installed on both an XP based machine, and a Vista based machine, and my Vista based machine running it, blows the XP version out of the water.
Our office just got ACA 2009 last week, and it seems to prefer the Vista based machine as well.
Architecture 2008, and as of Saturday, 2009 as well.
Are the machines spec'd the same? Because it seems unlikely. Vista interprets OpenGL to DirectX (this is due to the way the vista kernel was designed with "security" in mind), while native OpenGL is used with XP. On exactly the same machine, XP blows away Vista for AutoCAD use. Google for "autocad vista opengl" and you'll get a ton of hits with explanations.

I ordered the eee PC with XP pre-installed from BestBuy.com today. I think Microsoft is recognizing the money they'd be leaving on the table (and market-share they'd be conceding to Linux) by not supporting this new product category.

they are similar in nature. My home machine uses an AMD processor, my work machine an Intel Processor. Other than that, they are spec'd the same.
