My wife's desktop computer with W10 got problems.
First, the taskbar background turned to black with white text and all the OS windows turned to black with white text. Some windows titles have lilac background color. Applications' windows look normal, but have a lilac background color.
In a day all the shortcuts from the desktop disappeared. Now it is not possible to put a new shortcut: the black windows work fine, until you put the shortcut name - shortcut does not appear.
Many reboots did not help. Avast premium and CCleaner Professional report all OK.
Any suggestion, please.

Run add or remove programs and sort by date installed. Remove the last couple of programs if you did not download them.

or
Go to create a restore point. You are not going to create a restore point but this is the only way I know how to get to "menu". At the top of the box you will see system restore. This will let you go back in time to when the system worked.

Dear Perigrine and rjm,
I tried all your suggestions. System Restore helped.
Thank you very much!

Glad SR resolved the issue but you might want to do a bit more troubleshooting before doing a SR next time as imho, it is a bit extreme to use SR for something that sounded relatively mild and harmless.

It could have been a "Personalization" attempt using High Contrast setting plus for Desktop to not show any icons/shortcuts nor allow you to create one could have been as simple as toggling the View > "Show desktop icons" option after you right-click an empty part of Desktop.
