Handling hard drives (UPS, app, buy, provider)

I've been in a warehouse situation where cases of HDs were handled roughly. I realize they are parked, packaged and in boxes, but I wondered if any damage could be done and if special procedures should be taken just for HDs.

They're pretty tough when parked. I remember seeing something on a drive saying the warranty would be voided if it were subjected to something like 200G's. I don't remember the number but it was much higher than I expected it to be. Were they bare hard drives or retail packaged? The retail drives are in boxes with packing material around them and the OEM drives are usually surrounded in foam rubber. Either way, it absorbs a lot of shock. When I buy OEM drives from Newegg, they're usually wrapped in a couple of layers of bubble wrap and thrown in a box with peanuts. I'm sure UPS kicks the box all the way from Newegg to me and the drives survive.

People where IPOD's on there shoulders and somehow those don't die.. I'd say they can be considered tough.. though as I recall one newegg'er complaining based on the providers own instructions when shipped they should be wrapped twice in bubble wrap (newegg only does it once)
