Hi I just moved to Manchester, CT and am planning on having a baby soon and am looking a good hospital in the area. I am willing to travel to surrounding towns. Can someone give me a good recommendation? I do not have a doctor yet and if you can suggest a doctor too that will be great. Thanks so much!

Manchester hospital percentage for satisfying its patients runs about average compared to national stats. Just something to keep in mind.

See this thread though.

DW's job requires her to go to every hospital in the region and observe all types of medical situations. Without a doubt she recommends Hartford Hospital. It is the best in the region. Jay

Pick your ob/gyn and pediatrician first...and go with the hospital they are affiliated with. Your insurance carrier will provide a list for you.

You will have a much longer relationship with them then a few days in a hospital.

You have to have the baby at a hospital that your OB uses. As for a pediatrician, the hospital can provide one while you're there, so you DON'T have to choose a pediatrician who goes to that hospital. When it comes to newborn care, you are much better off at Hartford Hospital than anywhere else, because of its affiliation with Connecticut Children's. Unfortunately, I have seen certain other hospitals drag their feet about transferring sick newborns to the Hartford Hospital/Connecticut Children's combined newborn intensive care unit, claiming that they were equipped to handle the sick infant, when they really weren't, because of not wanting to give up the money. For that reason alone, I would agree with Hartford Hospital.
