Thanks

I know that Amtrak has trains that run from NY Penn Station to Meriden. I'm not sure if there is a bus.

You could drive to New Britain. Peter Pan bus leaves from Jimmy's Smoke Shop to NYC. The website is Peter Pan Bus

Like mlassloff said, the easiest option is probably the Amtrak train, which is showing up on the website as about $35 from Meriden to Penn Station. If you're really desperate for a cheaper option, you could also book an Amtrak ticket from Meriden to New Haven for $5 and then take an off-peak Metro-North train from New Haven to Grand Central for $14 (depending on the timing, you might end up on a peak train, which is $18.50). This will add some extra time to your journey, though, as you would need to buy another ticket and wait for the next train to go from the station.
