Greenwich is once again the state capital of the super-rich.

Eight of Connecticut's 11 billionaires live in Greenwich: Danbury, Darien, New Haven each have one

Connecticut has 11 residents on Forbes' 2011 list of the world's billionaires -- up from 10 last year. Eight of them live in Greenwich, while 10 of the 11 call Fairfield County their home.

It was a good year for the state's mega-earners: All but three state residents increased their net worth, as the fortunes of Danbury's Peter Buck and Thomas Peterffy and William Macaulay of Greenwich remained unchanged at $1.8 billion, $1.4 billion, and $1.1 billion. C. Dean Metropoulos, also of Greenwich, joined the list.

Here are Connecticut's billionaires, along with their Forbes ranking among the world's richest people and worths:

114. Steve Cohen, Greenwich

Cohen, 55, is the founder of Stamford-based hedge fund SAC Capital Advisors and an art collector known to drop $100 million for a painting or sculpture he fancies. Forbes reports that he is worth $8 billion.

162. Ray Dalio, Greenwich

Dalio, 61, is head of Bridgewater Associates, the world's biggest hedge fund that's headquartered in Westport but said to be looking to relocate somewhere in the area. Dalio and his family are also noted philanthropists. He's sitting on about $6 billion, Forbes says.

304. Edward Lampert, Greenwich

Lampert, 48, founder of ESL Investments, a hedge fund with offices on Greenwich Avenue, is also chairman of Sears Holdings Corp. through his funds' controlling investment in the parent company of the Sears and Kmart retail chains. His fortune is estimated at $3.6 billion.

336. Paul Tudor Jones, Greenwich

Tudor Jones, 56, is known for his Tudor Investment Corp., a group of Greenwich-based hedge funds, as well as for the annual Christmas light show at his home in Belle Haven, his founding of New York's charitable Robin Hood Foundation and his fervent support of his alma mater, the University of Virginia. He has about $3.3 billion.

692. Peter Buck, Danbury

Buck, 80, reportedly loaned pal Fred DeLuca $1,000 in 1965 to open a sandwich shop in Bridgeport, which gave birth to the Subway chain of nearly 34,000 restaurants worldwide, surpassing McDonald's. He lives in the Aunt Hack section of town with his $1.8 billion fortune.

736. Karen Pritzker, New Haven

Part of the multi-billionaire family that grew rich on the Hyatt hotel chain and Royal Caribbean cruises, Pritzker is 53. Her share of the family fortune is $1.7 billion.

736. Stephen Mandel, Greenwich

Mandel, 54, founded Greenwich-based Lone Pine Capital. Its hedge funds are often among the top-performing in the world. His success has put $1.7 billion in his pockets.

782. Richard Chilton, Jr., Darien

Chilton, 54, is chairman, CEO and chief investment officer of Chilton Investment Co., a Stamford-based hedge fund manager founded in 1992 with offices in New York, London, Hong Kong, Beijing and Chengdu. Forbes puts his personal worth at $1.7 billion.

879. Thomas Peterffy, Greenwich

Peterffy, 66, is chief executive of Greenwich-based Interactive Brokers Group, an electronic market maker and broker specializing in options. An immigrant from Hungary, Peterffy started his career as a computer programmer. He's now worth about $1.4 billion.

993. C. Dean Metropoulos, Greenwich

An investor who has put his money into Vlassic pickles, Ghirardelli chocolate and Bumble Bee tuna, Metropoulos, 64, also paid a quarter of a billion dollars for Pabst Brewing, maker of Pabst Blue Ribbon, Old Milwaukee and other classic-styled American beers. He can afford to buy a few rounds at the bar with his $1.2 billion.

1,057. William Macaulay, Greenwich

Macaulay, 65, is chairman and chief executive of First Reserve Corp., the biggest private-equity investor in the energy sector with more than $21 billion under management. He has $1.1 billion.

Anyone know if the 80-year-old guy is single (and ill)? Or looking to adopt a 45-year-old daughter (and her husband)?

Yeah, Greenwich money is nuts. Backcountry can't compare to any other town in the USA.

I can't tell you how many times I've leisurely driven around the Greenwich backcountry and had to turn around because everything turned into private streets and drives. Most of these estates don't even need big walls and trees for privacy-you just see a driveway leading far into the distance over a rolling hill. No home/mansion in sight. Ah, that's the way to live. Totally secluded.
