Hi everyone

I live up in Torrington but am looking to do a day trip Thursday or Friday to local beaches (CT or RI), and would have my two well behaved dogs with me. Are there any dog friendly beaches in CT or RI that my dogs could run round on, take a dip, etc, without being given dirty looks?

I've learned no matter how well trained, quiet, & well behaved our dogs are..people will still feel uncomfortable with a loose dog on a beach while they are relaxing with their eyes closed. I also havent found any down this way. So Parks with lakes and Rivers is what we do and she looooves it. I'm not a beach person(hate the sun) but I do understand the uncomfort people may feel especially because they all dont know you. So thats why I "think" there's a ban everywhere for beaches.. Hopefully someone has more info.

After Labor day is a different story..

Places in CT where dogs are allowed off leash- few in number

Click on link

Top 10 Dog Beaches in Connecticut

From the state of CT DEP website- scroll down until you find the section on dogs
Basically dogs not allowed anywhere where there is swimming.

DEP: Policies - CT State Parks and Forests

Rules tend to relax or are ignored after Labor Day.

Where ever you go, please remember to poop scoop.

When you allow your dogs to run loose anywhere but inside your own fenced yard, you are endangering yourself, your dogs, other dogs on leashes, and other people.

Where is that? Looks nice. Maybe after labor day we will go then... I wish CT has a dog beach for summer!

Click on link below- it's list of dogs parks or places where dogs are allowed off leash. There are two near you - one in Torrington and one in Harwinton- both seem to have ponds, trails, fields.

A lot of those beaches are for residents only or charge a ton for parking (like $50 at Compo).

I see dogs at Silver Sands, tons on the boardwalk, but I don't know if they're officially allowed. Parking is free too.

Dogs are welcome on Compo Beach in Westport from October 1 to March 31. There is no charge for parking on those dates as well. You will commonly see people walking dogs on the beach in the winter months... We enjoy bringing our Lab out during that time of year, but certainly understand why she's prohibited in the summer months...
