Hello again! I was going to start a new thread, but thought I would just add to this one. I hope it gives me the chance to send more thanks to members who responded to me before (Thanks!: CTWhitechin, Nep321, 7Wishes, JayCT, Stylo, Slipperman and CTColdPlay) and allows me another chance to ask for advice, suggestions and info.
Here is some background info: After getting a part time job in New London, and moving to Niantic, I am now changing jobs. I am working at "UConn" in Farmington. I am very grateful, because I think this will be a nice opportunity for me. I am presently communiting from Niantic, but want to move closer to Farmington and settle in a bit more in that area, and I plan to buy a house. OK, now for my question: Can anyone give me info about areas to live near the Farmington area? A realtor is helping me and I want to do my homework too! Here are a few things that are important to me. I would like to be within 20-30 minutes of UConn, perhaps west, or southwest of the Hartford area, as I have family in NY and go there frequently. I would like a safer area (of course that is important to many people, however, I am a single person and feel I need to be extra cautious). Which areas have lower taxes? Which areas are more welcoming to single folks like myself? Thanks in advance to anyone who can spare some time to help answer my questions. :-)

Before buying, I would recommend renting and getting to know the area better. West Hartford has a lot of rentals and is a nice town for singles. It has a great nightlife and a lot of restaurants and shops.

If you do still want to buy, I would also recommend West Hartford but note the taxes are not low. Most nicer towns will have higher taxes and only towns that are really rural or do not offer much will be low here in Connecticut. You do not indicate price range so I will suggest Farmington (taxes are not bad) and Southington. Good luck, Jay

Default Thanks JayCT

Thanks JayCT. The info is very helpful. I have heard from other people as well that West Hardford is great, but high on taxes. Just today, someone I work with also mentioned Farmington, so that seems worth considering as well. My price range is about $250,000.

Hello to anyone living in the Hartford and the surrounding counties. I presently live in Philadelphia, Pa. I was thinking of moving to Hartford in the near future, I was wondering if anyone could give me some info, for instance I'm a man of color who has concerns to the treatment of African Americans or anyone of color, or ethnicity. I'm well aware, no matter where one goes there will be a element of racism what I need to know is it low or high. Any input in this matter would be greatly appreciated
