This is really unfortunate. The Daniel Street Club has hosted acts almost 7 days a week in the heart of downtown. From rock, to blues, jazz, acoustic and everything in-between - both national and local bands have come through. It's been a really important part of the area's culture, and adds another dimension to the downtown mix.

A few months ago, the owner (who also owns Stonebridge) sold it to the Rigione family, who had owned bars in the past with sketchy reputations. Apparently the original owner decided he didn't want to sell, and the prospective family threatened to sue him for a tidy sum - forcing him to sell. Not a good start. The community is not pleased.

Rumor is a they want to do pizza/club combo type of venue. Which sounds like they want to emulate Bar in New Haven. And I wouldn't mind that, but I doubt it would live up to the quality of Bar. That, and Bar does host live bands every week in addition to DJ nights.

I just hope it continues to host live music. It would be a waste of an already existing stage and space. Wishful thinking, maybe. Downtown doesn't need another skanky bar.

its really unfortunate then CT doesnt have more live venue or music scenes. Fairfield One is pretty cool and gets some great legit shows but there should be more bars in stamford or other nearby cities that have bands coming every night or wherever and I'm not talking about going to Tiernans and hearing another cover band play the same stupid 80's-90s songs

They've never owned any bar that didn't have a sketchy rep.

I think this is going to be the 3rd time Rigione is opening a club in Milford. I have a hunch though that Milford P.D. is going to be on the place like a fly to s^*t from day one if their past enforcement actions are any indication.

I don't think a Regione bought it. It's becoming a country bar shortly.

It's like a bad dream.

They just opened a country bar right down the road and I don't think it's even doing well...

At least with the pizza place we may get a decent pizza place within downtown area.

sigh..

No pizza. The country bar you're talking about is the one that's moving into the space.

I can't see how it will survive.

Maybe if it was done in a hip, Nashville-esque way. Alt/indie country, or maybe that Coyote Ugly feel. Have good roots rock type live music. A little rough around the edges, but hip. But my impression is that it's very much corny with line dancing and whatnot, and older cover bands playing country and classic rock. The NASCAR and Garth Brooks feel will not resonate with the younger crowd in downtown. And the older crowd these corny country bars tend to attract aren't really the bar hopping, willing-to-park-and-walk crowd.

A good Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band would be its only saving grace (if we're talking country)

=)

BAR is pretty nice. Looking forward to being closer to it =)
