Has anyone been to the front street development in downtown Hartford?

I heard they had started or finished building it but I haven't been in the city for about 2 years.

Thanks

Phase 1 is finished and are getting interest of people doing business. I think one is a movie therater and I forgot whats the other entertainment that is interested to do business at front street... The phase 2 I'm not sure but I think phase 2 is all about housing.

The problem with Front Street is that it lost momentum when then Mayor perez stuck his nose in the project and insisted on changing developers. That slowed the project at a critical time and meant that the development was built in one of the worst economic periods in the last 80 years. With all the government support, the developers were only able ot start the retail portion and that was scaled back from the original plans.

Despite this they did get a movie theater operator to come in and there is a music venue tied to the group that runs a successful Litchfield county venue. Hopefully these two will encourage more to come and the housing component will get moving soon. Odd that it has not moved forward since there are a number of housing proposals in the works downtown right now. Jay

The movie theater operator is going to be Spotlight Theaters. I think it's going to be 4 screens and a restaurant & bar.

It's hard to see why people would go to Hartford to see movies. But whatever.

They need downtown apartments in order to get more people into the city.

I used to live in Hartford downtown was nice for restaurants and bars not sure if a movie theater is going to work.

There are preliminary plans for ~500 new apartments in three different buildings in Downtown. Three different developers are working on them. Different price points and layouts. 777 Main, Constitution Plaza and 370 Asylum. Would be great for Downtown if any or all of them work out.

I believe it'll be more art and independent films, rather than just the blockbusters you can see at your local megaplex. I think if the restaurant is good, they could do quite well.
