is it against the law for a registered sex offender to be in the presence of a minor. my ex brother in law was recently released and has visited my ex wife at their house and my 13 y.o. daughter was there. is this legal. what rights do i have?

As far as I could search Connecticut has no sex offender laws, most states only have laws about where they can live not where they can visit.
I would actually call the local police station and ask them what can you do or if you have any legal rights to prevent him from being around her.

If he was recently released he is likely on parole. Many parolees have a condition of no supervised contact with children. If he was imprisoned in Connecticut you can look up online who his probation officer is and contact him to find out more.

It is only a restriction if it is a condition of his parole/probation. If his conviction was a sex crime against a minor, i can guarantee it is a condition that he can not be around a minor UNSUPERVIZED.

However... if his sister is a court authorized supervisor then its perfectly okay. To be a supervisor you need to take an 8 week class with the offender and be approved by the class supervisor, the PO, and usually a judge has to sign off on it.

You need to know the details of the case. The simple conviction is often misleading. The details of the case will indicate the degree of danger or not.
