I currently live in Hamden and I like the town despite how expensive it may be but have stayed here for 12+ years because I wanted my son to be in a good school system but now that he has reached high school I am very disappointed with Hamden High. I am now looking to buy a house and decided I should just move out of Hamden since the High school isn’t so great. Can anyone suggest good towns to live in that offer a good school system? I work in Wallingford so I don’t want to move too far from where I work. I know no school is going to be perfect but some of the important factors (not in order of importance) are: Diversity, Not too big (Hamden High has 2k students), Good test scores, Teachers that care, Challenging (Prepares him for college) and No Bad stuff (no drugs, bullying, etc). Any town suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also would love to hear from parents who have children in high school (Including Hamden) and what their experience is (Good / Bad). Also, any thoughts regarding the New Haven magnet high schools. Thanks!

That's the other issue...lol. My price range for buying a home is around $130K.

That is extremely limiting. You might be able to get a tiny condo for that price in a town with good school systems, but nothing more.

Cheshire might have a few options, but not many.

327 S Brooksvale Rd, Cheshire, CT 06410 is For Sale - Zillow

264 Robin Ct #B, Cheshire, CT 06410 is For Sale - Zillow

Wallingford schools would also be a step up from Hamden in terms of test scores.

The places where you could buy a house at your price point would be in a rotten neighborhood in New Haven itself. You might be able to pick up a short sale or a foreclosure elsewhere, but you would have to work closely with a real estate agent to find the right one and work your way through the process. .

However, a condo is definitely possible. Here are a couple, one in Wallingford itself, one in North Branford. There are more, these are just examples.

Please keep in mind that drugs are everywhere, bullies are everywhere. There is no school system free from them. What you want to check is the school system's policy on bullying. Good luck

I am not sure why you thoght Hamden had good schools but in comparison to say New Haven, they would be a step up. The first town that came to my mind was North Haven. It has very good schools but I am not sure what you will get there for your budget. The next town would be Wallingford. The schools there are also pretty good.

Cheshire has good schools to but it would be very expensive. Shelton and Stratford are not good suggestions for your commute or your price range. Jay
