Hello, Im hoping to find some good information to help me make a very difficult descion and change. I am currently out of the States but upon returning I am planning to move to CT. I have never been there but after narrowing my options I choose CT. Breaking it down further I have been looking at the New Haven area but i havent been able to break it down by section. I recently looked on a website and I seen that New Haven crime rate is really high (not sure if it meant the town New Haven or the county. I am from NYC and not looking to go back to that type of environment. Seeing that really discouraged me and now im more lost. Some of the areas i have looked at that seem pretty nice are woodbridge, orange, and west haven. Im looking for a nice place where its not too crazy expensive to live (not necessarily cheap either with a nice active nightlife(gay and/or straight) fairly close by also a low crime rate. I have no kids so im not worried about school. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

New Haven city has the same problems that any urban American city has - a good deal of crime, poor schools and homelessness. New Haven County itself is a very safe place to call home and you have nothing to worry about.

Since you're not worried about schools, New Haven itself has some nice areas such as East Rock and Westville. These are walkable urban neighborhoods - it's no more dangerous than NYC - just be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine. If you don't mind suburban living, Milford is an excellent small city. It's very safe, has plenty of shopping, good nightlife, beaches and good restaurants. The city is affordable and on the Metro-North line into Grand Central.

West Haven is a hurting city and driving around, it shows. It's safe, but does have its seedy areas. It's mostly working class but I have found folks here to be friendlier than surrounding towns. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend living in West Haven if you can afford Milford.

Woodbridge and Orange are affluent family oriented communities that are very safe and clean. Schools are among the best in the area and if you can afford it, by all means, go for it.

For good nightlife (gay & straight) check out the Temple and Crown street areas in New Haven. Same goes for downtown Milford where you have SBC, Archie Moores, Citrus and Stonebridge.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.

Milford, Orange and Woodbridge are all western suburbs of New Haven (where Tweed is located) - about a 10-15 minute drive from Orange and Woodbridge and 15-20 minutes from Milford.

tweed-New Haven Airport is located on the East Haven-New Haven town line on the east side of the city. The towns mentioned (Woodbridge, Orange and Milford) are west of New Haven. The drive can be as little as 15 minites or as long as 45 minutes depending on traffic to get through New Haven. Jay
