I think you'll need roommates. Try South Norwalk or Black Rock.

Studios are $700 and up in Bport but it come with some danger

You would definetly need to look into a house/apartment share. I was able to get a temporary situation for about your budget with utilities (Norwalk). If you are interested in talking to me directly about my experience you can PM me directly. I moved from CA to CT.

Unfortunately you are moving to one of the most expensive parts of the country so your budget will not go very far. You definitely will have to share but I am not even sure if your budget will cover that unless you are going to live in a very modest apartment.

I generally recommend people live as close to their work as possible. This is particularly true in Fairfield County where traffic can be a nightmare. I would start looking for a rental share in Norwalk and Fairfield which are short drives to Westport without having to get on a highway. You could also look for a rental share in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport which is just over the Fairfield line. Good luck, Jay

FFC is the last place you want to start out.

$800 per month in FFC will have you living like you were still in the dorms at college.

Are you aware how terrible the traffic is?

Are you aware how unlikely it is that you'll ever be able to purchase property there?

Unless this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I'd look elsewhere.

$800 for a share of an apartment seems reasonable enough to me. Not for one's own apartment (unless in a shady area), but with a willingness to have roommates, why not?

Yeah your going to need roommates and probably more than one.
Downtown Stamford has the most action but harder parking and more street congestion, sometimes beyond belief.
Sono a little less than Stamford but still plenty of action, hard parking, easy hop on the highway or backroad drive to Westport.
East Norwalk, great beach area, more residential but lots of nice multifamily home rentals if you can find one available. Easy parking and walkable or 30 seconds drive to Sono for the action. Could be a 5 minute commute.
Fairfield/Black Rock - same thing since the action is 30 seconds drive apart, great areas as well - more residential multi-family home style.
Milford/Stratford has nice downtown and beach areas as well, but 45 minute commute to westport.

IF the OP is going to even consider relocating to FFC in the first place, his priorities should be

1) Finding an affordable place to live

2) That place being close to work

And a VERY DISTANT #3 should be how close he is to nightlife/entertainment.

I can't help but shake my head when so many young people act as if living closer to nightlife is more important that living closer to their JOB.

It should be exactly the opposite being that you will go to work 5 days a week, but only out maybe once a week at the most.

I disagree. This exact same thing could be said about any major city in this country. Fairfield County is a great place for a young person to get their first job. You are near the greatest city in the world. There are tons of exciting and interesting things to do. There are thousands of young people to meet. When I got out of college I shared a small apartment with one and then a second roommate. I survived and was eventually able to afford the place on my own. There are affordable places that really are not that far where a person can buy their first home, you just have to realize that you cannot expect a large brand-new home in the nicest towns, at least at first. Also note that pay rates generally help compensate for the higher cost-of-living there. Sorry but when you are young and just out of college, most people are willing to make sacrifices for their first job. Jay
