A headline promising to show where meth labs have been busted "nearby" revealed that CT has the lowest number of meth labs per capita.

We are doing something well!

The Ozarks area has a lot of problems. CT residents love to complain but don't seem to know how good they really have it.

Are we, though? The fact that meth hasn’t made its way to the northeast doesn’t mean the states up here are doing anything well - it means the drug of choice remains heroin because it’s cheaper and easier to obtain. Meth labs require remote spaces to operate and that’s not as common in the northeast as it is in the Midwest and southwest. It hasn’t made its way here because of that - not because of something the states here are doing.

The rate of fatal drug overdoses is far more severe in CT, and other northeastern states, due to the opioid crisis. Further, state politicians on both sides ignored the issue until it was too late (this goes for all states; not just CT).

I wouldn’t say they’re doing anything “well” re: illicit drugs.

What specific problems do they have that the east coast states don’t?

Really?

Connecticut poverty rate: 9.6 percent
Missouri poverty rate: 14 percent
Arkansas poverty rate: 18.9 percent

That doesn't even touch on public education issues, healthcare, crime.

Well, given the choice of having problems with opioids or opioids AND meth, I'll take the former.

I am glad its not here, but kidyankee764 is correct. It requires rural areas to make it, as production process stinks to an extreme.

I thought this thread was discussing meth labs (or even drugs in general) - not poverty rates.

Anyone who thinks solely because CT doesn’t have a plethora of meth labs that residents should feel lucky has not been paying attention to what’s happened re: opiates in the state.

I don’t mean to be a downer (no pun intended), but it’s very shortsighted.

Opioids are not as popular in the Southwest as they are in the northeast, southeast and west. There is really no area that is experiencing the same number of opioid overdoses as the Northeast and is suffering from meth addiction. It is usually one or the other.

And opioids are far more dangerous than meth - which is not physically addictive nor is it usually fatal. The opposite is true for opioids.

I didn't say CT doesn't have ANY problems. Just that the complainers take a lot for granted. In the grand scheme of things, we're in better shape.

Maybe by some metrics, but when it comes to drugs, CT is actually in worse shape than those “meth” states.
