Any suggestions on towns/schools are very helpful and THANK YOU to the people who have posted so far. I can't wait to come out next month and see for my own eyes. Oh yeah what is the most cost effective heating?
Most of the rural areas have either heating oil or propane, so it will just depend on what the house already has. Heating oil is pretty "cheap" these days, but could go up if gas prices go back up. The bigger your house, the more it will cost to heat obviously. I don't know if I would call either cost effective .

Also be prepared that you will probably also have well water and a septic system. I love our well water though!

Good luck to you!

I just kept my eyes open for jobs in my husband's field that were back east (didn't have a specific place in mind) and eventually found one my husband was interested in. He started his new job last February and we moved out after school was out.

Default Granby

Hi,
I've lived in CT for the last 10 years and I can say that I like it. First I lived in Manchester, I don't think you wan to live there, schools terrible and just a commercial town. Then I moved to Newington, a commercial town too, but schools better an great town programs, but you can't find an acre of land anywhere.
Now, I am in Granby, a small town with great people and excellent schools. Granby is also known for the equestrian community. Most people here have horses and you see people riding their horses around town specially during the summer.
I think compare to Fairfield county, Granby is a great choice but it is a little out of the way for shopping.
Other good choice are Simsbury, Avon and Farmington, but not so horse oriented.
DO NOT move to Torrington! Schools are not good and do not stay in Enfield either.....
Good luck
