I've been stymied trying to find a decent source for video rentals in the Wilton/Norwalk area. I know of a Blockbuster near Home Depot on Post Rd. and another one farther north-east on Post Rd closer to Westport.

Aren't there any independent stores? Given the number of people, the level of sophistication and the amount of disposable income I expected at least one decent independent. I guess at this point I'd be happy just to have something closer to Wilton. I suppose I may need to look into Netflix, but where's the fun in that?

You try the library? And they're free to boot. Otherwise Netflix. Have it delivered right to you.

VERY few independent video stores in FFC. There were some great ones, all gone. I don't know of any left in the Wilton/Norwalk area.

We should open one up then. Route 7 in Wilton would be perfect. Then again... too much competition and people rather point, click, and open mailbox.

Independent video stores have virtually disappeared. Even Blockbuster is struggling because of competition from Netflix and Indemand. Jay

My husband is a video store lover...he can spend an hour in Blockbuster wandering around (I personally hate this trait ) The last local mom and pop video store we knew of was across from the Branchville train station in Ridgefield. It closed about 2 yrs ago after being unbearably slow for years prior. Unfortunately they are dinosaurs and again, even Blockbuster is not doing well.

Redbox is great, although their selections are obviously limited. You can't beat the $1/night price tag and they usually get new releases right away. Definitely better than spending $4 or more at Blockbuster.

Living in the West Village in nyc before moving up here I became so spoiled by the amazing movie selections. Redbox just doesn't cut it- they're largely the same movies you passed on when they were in the theater. Maybe you were just really busy and didn't get a chance to make it to see one as first-run, but there are no hidden gems there. Blockbuster used to have a *decent* selection but seems to carry fewer and fewer titles. Do you really need 55 copies of Pirates of the Caribbean? And very few of their employees are there because they just love movies. I used to go to a great shop called World of Video where everyone was a big film fan, and they all seemed to have some little niche area of expertise- whether it was horror films, musicals, sci-fi, silent movies and you could talk with them for 15-20 minutes and get amazing recommendations you'd never come across otherwise. It's amazing how little service we now have in the modern service economy.
