I grabbed one on impulse today, without much thought.

Who is using Chromecast, and what is your experience?

Good, bad, OK?

How are you connecting?

I have one at home. It's okay. I can stream Youtube, Netflix and Hulu on my TV using this. It's connected by Wifi only, very easy to install. However, I don't like the fact that I cannot stream my own videos & music. Otherwise it's good.

I am! I quite love it, it saved me from building or re-using a PC for an HTPC setup, and we've gotten rid of cable since we just watch netflix and google play stuff (we have a prime acct). Throw some pandora up there when we're cleaning the apartment (currently doing that a lot since we just moved), youtube vids of course, it's just good stuff for such a low price.

Brian, check out Plex, Google just set forth official support for casting your media via plex. You may have to manually configure your router for the port that Plex uses.

Thanks for the headsup! I will look into that.

I have one on a bedroom tv that wasn't connected to cable. I love it. You can also stream anything that can play from a Chrome browser on a pc (not a tablet). I steamed a game on Espn3 that was playing on a Chrome browser.

My brother uses it. I saw how well it worked to stream photos from a family trip he took to Mexico to his big flat screen TV so that we could all enjoy it when I was visiting him.

This is very good news. I asked for one for Christmas. If I don't get it, it might be worth it to wait and get one around my birthday. Would love to have the functionality to stream from my S3.

Sure you can. Use Google Chrome to open the movie and play the movie in a Chrome tab. Then start casting it to your TV. Set video to fullscreen and away you go. Voila!

Chromecast doesnt display 1080p. It displays 480p or 720p. Your video is being downconverted in order to play on the fly. It surely looks nice, but isnt 1080p (1920x1080).

I have two Chromecasts, one for the living room TV and one for my projector in the movie room. For movies usually I connect my laptop into the a/v receiver with HDMI, as Chromecast doesnt look fantastic on a 16 foot diagonal projection screen and the projector I have is native 1920x1080p as well so might as well use it.
