I'm looking for a scanner/printer/copier combo (no fax capability necessary). It's been a while since I bought my last unit, which is a Brother MFC-J430W - a nice enough printer, but is getting on a bit (heads clogging every week is a particular annoyance), plus its control panel has been attracting wildlife, otherwise known as a very active (and, apparently, intelligent) kitten who has become prone to button-pushing (the noises! the moving paper! the endless entertainment!). Would like to hear some real-world experiences, especially with respect to the last point. My requirements are as follows:

- Under $150 (ideally under $100, but deals are always out there to be had)
- Vertical control panel (or one that can be rotated down)
- Double-sided printing
- Ability to utilize 3rd party inks without having to clean heads daily OR cheap-ish OEM ink

Would love to hear some suggestions. Thanks!

My experience with the clogged printer heads would tend to contradict that. I'm not against another one, but am a bit leery. Also heard that Canon's printers have similar issues.

That all depends on your definition of "It's been a while since I bought my last unit". What is a while?

I've had it for about four years, I'd say. The clogging issue has been intermittent for the last three.

In my experience (5 printers over the last 15 years), HP printers are horrible and my last two Brother printers lasted 5 years each. Right now I'm running a 5-yo Brother J470 on cheap 3rd-party ink and a 1-yo Canon laser printer.

If I were in the market, I'd probably get another Brother printer or this one: Canon MAXIFY MB2320 Wireless All-In-One Printer Black 9488B002 - Best Buy

Thanks! Maybe I'll give Brother another look. That Canon does look tempting, as well, though. Poor graphics per reviews, but I don't print graphics, so that should be OK. Although it does have buttons facing up, so maybe not...

Maybe consider a color laser then? No more clogged print heads.

You will never get a consensus on here.
Any all in 1 printer I've purchased or have helped anyone with that was under $100 without fail has turned out to be crap. Brother, Canon...
We do have this in our office and it's actually been pretty reliable so far:
https://www.amazon.com/Canon-imageCL...ywords=printer

It was over $99 when we bought it.
