On the back of my TV which I use as a monitor with my laptop, there is a USB port with the call-out: "SERVICE ONLY"

Monitor data: LG Flatron, Model 'M 2762 DL'

I am using this USB port as a 'power source' for some of my peripherals (Amazon Firestick)
I like it this way, in order to be able to turn off the power to the Firestick at the same time as I turn off the Monitor.

Does anybody know how much power this USB port may have?

I like to power the 'Optical Sound Out' converter, from that same USB, if at all possible...

The attached Pic shows what I have presently and what I like to do (inserted pic)

TIA

Standard voltage is 5v. It should be that at least.

Service Only is used I would assume for firmware upgrades. The manual would/should tell you more.

Firesticks usually do not work well with these type ports. If it does for you, then you are in luck. They work better with the supplied power adapter.

The bigger question is how much current is it capable of supplying.

No easy way of knowing.

The USB 2.0 spec is 500ma, but it’s possible the TV puts out more.

Does the Firestick complain at all? I recall it mentions if not plugged into a sufficient power source that it recommends using the adapter.

If you get no alerts then the TV probably puts out enough. But I think you are pushing it by trying to add something else.

Exactly...
I know that USB is 5 Volts, but powering up two or three items may be overstressed a bit ...

My apologies, I should have been more clear!

The other problem is that I really have no idea how much power the peripherals need.

Case in point...
I have a USB powered hub with 7 ports. Not any info available.
No way that dinky hub can power 7 external drives...

I guess I was lucky, because the Firestick does work very well when powered by that USB port.

The manual of the TV does not even mention that USB (Service Only) port...

I could use a USB 5volts powered Switch adapter (using a small relay, controlling 120 vac house power) that then works as a Central power supply.

I agree, hence my question...

The firestick only plugged in that USB, no problems or complaints from the Firestick!

Then you’re likely ok. It’s possible it puts out more than 500ma - could be 750 or even 1A. But I wouldn’t add more to the load.

It can if it’s powered.
