We have a relatively new TV. It's a flat screen less than 2 years old. Samsung HDTV. I don't need one of those converter boxes. Are you supposed to just hook up the cable and voila, you've got reception? We can't get ANY reception! It was working when we lived in another house but it doesn't work in the new one. We lived in both these houses after the big change to digital and both houses were built after 2004. I just don't get it. Hubby says other people have been complaining about the same prob but I haven't heard a thing. Is free tv dead, too?! Or are we just not doing something correctly. We got NO reception at all - just a snow screen or whatever that's called.

Go into the menu selection, and rescan the channels. Make sure it is set for digital scan.

You might need an amplifier, a better antenna or an outdoor antenna. Go to AntennaWeb and enter your street address for specific advice on what you'll need to receive signals at your location.

By "cable" I assume you mean the cable going to the antenna and not cable TV?

You know, I'm not really sure. My husband hooked it up the same way at the new house as he did at the old house when we did get reception since the changeover.

I'm confused. I'm just thinking "outloud" here and don't really know how hubby did it but why would antennas even work right now? Reception is digital now. I wouldn't think an antenna even mattered?

The function of antennas has not changed during the analog to digital transition. Antennas simply receive a signal; it doesn't matter if it's analog or digital.

If you don't have cable or satellite, you need an antenna, just like you always have.

If there are tall buildings in your area, they might be blocking the reception via the antenna.

Well, if you don't subscribe to cable TV service, then you need an antenna, and the antenna at the new house may not be up to the task. As pcity said, antennas do still work.

Also, some or all of your VHF stations may now be UHF stations. UHF stations require a different antenna to receive them.
