Hi..the hubster and I want to go fishing around Defeated Creek Park area that sits along the banks of Cordell Hull Lake on the Cumberland River System, seven miles from Carthage.

Where do I go to get a fishing license? Do I need a boat or can I fish along the banks of the river? Anybody familiar with this area? What kind of fish can I catch besides wide mouth bass? And is there a best time of year when the fish are plentiful? Any areas better than others or should I be on another body of water? Any fish experts out there? We are in our fifties so we are looking for an easy peaceful area! What areas are good for beginner fishermen? Thanks!

Look in Kentucky. Plenty of good fishing up there.

good luck ive been fishing that river for 10 years its tricky and takes some skill. but you can go pick up some worms and catch bluegill just about anywhere. Pick up some chicken livers and fish rock bluffs and snags for cats at night. Rockfish, sm bass, lm bass, walleye, sauger are going to take some skill research and trial and error especially rockfish.

you can pick up a license at walmart and most bait shops like the one on the i-40 exit in carthage. Also the caney fork is legendary for trout and rockfish. wait tell the spring rains are over and head up to center hill dam for trout. warms, powerbait, and salmon eggs typically work. Theres plenty of good guides for that river that will take you out show you some tricks for around 300$. Talk to the people at the canoe rental place and they should be able to hook you with a good guide.
