With more changes to come! Governor Lee's budget will include funding for a new Engineering Building. THEC, Tennessee Higher Education Commission, had made this a priority as Tech produces the most engineering students in Tennessee, and so now will the Governor. The state legislature will need to approve.

Estimated cost for the new building is $55 million.

That is wonderful news! I wonder where they plan on building it. I looked back over TTU's master plan and don't see a new engineering building, just some generic "academic" buildings next to the new science building that's already under construction.

I'm not sure where, but it was 4th on the recommended list for Capital Outlay from THEC and included in the Governor's budget proposal announced last night.

Actually, the 2019-20 budget only includes the $3 million or so dollars for planning the project. So, the 2020-21 budget should include the remaining $50 million or so to fund construction.

Hopefully, TTU can also remotely competitive Football and Men’s Basketball teams as well. All kidding aside, why has Tech been so historically bad in two major sports?

Yes, the governor has proposed $3.25 million for planning the new engineering building. This is part of a total of $60 million for TTU that the governor has proposed, a 10.4 percent increase from last year's budget and the highest increase among all public universities in Tennessee.

Maybe Coach Pelphrey can work on getting Tech Basketball on the righ track; it was fun a long, long, long time ago.

Former Alabama assistant coach John Pelphrey hired at Tech | Herald Citizen
