300 IT jobs in Cookeville? That's interesting. And it's a Virgina based company ... or is that agency?

An agency getting tax incentives? No.

The big grin emotincon meant an attempt at humor.

But 300 IT jobs in a town like Cookeville is unusual. Makes you wonder what type of company this is. I assume the IT positions are engineering positions with an average salary of 60k. I also wonder if the new 1GB service in the area helped play a role in the deal.

I understood the joke, but perhaps not everyone would understand the veiled humor. Very good point about the fiber ran by Twin Lakes.

It could very well be a government contractor that doesn't actually have to be in the DC area. I have a few friends in Cookeville who do IT work out of their homes (and get paid fortunes); they have the kind of job where they could live anywhere but decided on Cookeville for a variety of reasons. And yes, the gigabit internet service is a huge advantage for them. I think more and more IT companies will likely move out of the more expensive big cities (especially places like DC) to less expensive places. Rural, family-friendly college towns like Cookeville, with hundreds of engineering students, lighting fast internet speeds, and very low overhead costs, are probably going to become attractive places for companies like Project Bottle.

I wouldn't be surprised if having gigabit internet in the area was also a draw for the software testing company out of Arizona that's expanding to Cookeville as well as home-grown ATC which is adding 100+ engineers to its production team in Cookeville.
