I live in North Dallas. My husband and I want to buy a small vacation home (no HOA) for a 3 day weekend get away. I'm looking for a place with:
1. Romantic European feel.
2. Coffee shops I can drive to on my Vespa.
3. Close to the beach. (at least 10 min)
4. Fun night life for people over 40 (dancing and cocktail lounges)
5. Place to buy fresh seafood nearby.
6. Small shops for dresses and shoes.
7. Nail and hair salons.

Is there an area for this in CC?

For Corpus Christi:

1. No. However, there are several areas, (in the ghetto), that feel like Mexico.
2. There is a German bakery on the island that I believe sells coffee. I am not sure if the island has any actual coffee shops.
3. A third of the city is within 10 min of the beach. So, yes.
4. I don't personally know of some cocktail lounges. However, a google search of cocktail lounges in Corpus Christi, reveals a few, scattered throughout the city. There are several nice night spots for 40 and older.
5. I am not sure exactly where, but I think Red Dot Pier might sell some fresh catches. Downtown at the marina's I am sure you can find fresh seafood.
6. There are some boutique shops downtown and around 6 Points. There may be one here and there on the island.
7. They are everywhere.

I see a lot of people riding Vespa's on the island and in Flour Bluff. Not so much in the main parts of the city though.

There are coffee shops on the island, as well as Rockport and Port A.

#5. Paul's Seafood. (Been a few months since I was there, but it was outstanding then).

You can ride your vespa, but you're not going to find a Romantic European feel in Corpus Christi. On a good day, you'll enjoy a relaxed Texas Beachy vibe. On a bad day you'll feel like broccoli steaming in a pot of hot water.

I would point you to Port Aransas or Rockport. Rockport will have everything you want minus the European feel.

Vespa's??? Do they still make those scooters? I haven't seen one of those since the 1980's. My neighbor has a couple of Honda's and drives them everywhere. Scooters are not a problem in CC.

More like 1967 for me! Looks like fun...

50 CC

300 CC

But I think I'd prefer an electric motorcycle.

don't drive it in the city!!! The drivers here are not good drivers. You'll be crying the blues if you do.

Might want to look at Galveston. The city has a lot of Old South charm and even some French-Louisianan influence mixed in with the architecture. It's close to Houston as well and not as far away from Dallas.

If you're willing to look out of state, consider some neighborhoods in New Orleans. There are tons and tons of upcoming trendy neighborhoods full of historic homes in the city. What people don't realize is that there is SO much more to New Orleans than the French Quarter and Bourbon St. The city of packed with charming neighborhoods full of coffee shops, boutiques, bars, and cafes where bicycles and scooters are a common site on the roads. The Garden District with the charming Magazine Street at its heart is an area to look at.

Good luck with your search!
