Hello, we will be moving in a few weeks. We have narrowed down to 2 homes for rent. We are a family of 4 two teenagers and all of us are excited to move there. We have visited 2 times for interviews and to look around some. My wife will be working at Christis Spohn Shoreline and I will be at Christis Spohn Memorial. First house is between yorktown and S Staples and the second house is by Ocean Dr and Ohio dr. I know about the schools and Diversity does not matter as we are coming from Phoenix and they are used to diversity. My thoughts are about crime. If you could choose either which one would you. The house by ocean is what we are leaning toward because it is bigger and nicer inside. Any thoughs would be appreciated.

Actually, both addresses are good. I doubt crime would be a major issue in either case.

I like the Yorktown & Staples area better simply because I live near there, it's a newer neighborhood and it's close to almost everything. The Ohio Ave address is less desirable, IMHO, only because it will be an older house with all of the problems associated with old houses. I like new and fewer problems. When we moved here my wife said she'd like to buy an old house and fix it up, I said "let's buy a new house and not have to fix it".

That's just me.

JBTX,

Thanks for the reply.

I know what you mean about having to fix did that and don't want to do it again. LOL. We will be renting for the first year for sure. The Ohio house has been completly remolded and really looks fantastic. It has almost 900 more sq ft. and makes for a very quick and easy communte for my wife, which she really likes. The big difference I guess is the home in your area has a pool. The ohio has a bigger lot more yard. I guess I was just worried about crime. The ohio house has a chefs kitchen and I love to cook. The only other question would be Ray vs Carroll high school any thoughts with those? I have done some research and showed my children both schools. My son really likes the Golf team at Ray. He was on the golf team here and you would think they play all year long, Nope only a couple months compared to there were they play all year, Go figure since golf is so big here. My daughter is a swimmer and was impressed the the swim team also. Sorry if I am rambling. So many decisions though. Thanks again for info.

I always recommend that newcomers try to live near the water / bay front. That is CC's strongest appeal. So, one vote for the Ohio house!

OTOH,,, the new Carrol High School is currently going up at the 3800 block of Cimarron. It will be a great addition to our neighborhood and very near Staples and Yorktown. It's at the juncture of Cimarron and Lipes,,, not yet viewable on google maps, but it's there.

I have no recommendations about area schools, both of my boys graduated from private schools and went on to private universities. I've never been impressed with Corpus Christi Public schools. Your mileage may vary.

Agree with the bayfront. Ohio is near the park that is the most used in the city. It's closer to downtown. The southside has the newer restaurants, unfortunately, but the more people promote the bayfront, the more the city will pay attention to it.

I guess you've made your decision.

Perhaps after you've rented for a year at the Ohio address, you might reconsider the southside for a more permanent dwelling. Stranger things have happened.

Thanks for all the info so far. The ohio house looks like might be out as it will not be vacated untill mid to late June. We are looking for beginning of June to move in. We have sumbmitted for the southside house and there are three other applications submitted also. The owners are going to look over and make decision by later today. Going to be a long few hours. The rental market is Much easier here. Many Many places to rent. Finding it hard so far in CC. The biggest problem is cost. Rent is higer in CC Especially for larger homes and we need well I should say we would like something at least 2200 sq ft. Well keep your fingers crossed hopefully owners will see that we have stable jobs(medical field) both of us, non smokers, no pets. We shall see.

Thanks again

It took us awhile to find a rental house when we first moved here. It was much easier to find a house to buy than to rent.
