How sad, I hope the autopsy can determine exactly how he died. If it was alcohol, let't hope if nothing else other your people will learn from this. Too much booze can kill, we hear of fraternity alcohol related deaths, prom night deaths, and deaths from too much partying period. I don't know how we, as parents and grandparents can get through to kids...Drink responsibly if you are going to drink at all.
Should be easy to check the cruise account and see just how many drinks were purchased if any.
the cruise lines automatically block indviduals' cruise credit card based on age preventing their use for alcohol and of course, no parent or guardian would ever allow their underage son to use their own card and would be closely monitoring their behavoir and whereabouts at all time.
"With regard to speculation that he may have died from alcohol poisoning, we can confirm that, based on the preliminary investigation, there is no indication he was served any alcohol by shipboard personnel,” the company said in statement.
in any case, it's the cruise line's fault and they should be sued
It's quite possible that he got totally wasted in port--I saw more than a few teens stagger back on the ship and puke in the hallways on the way towards passing out in their cabins a few times on Caribbean cruises.
That said, I agree with NJKate--where were the parents or guardians or even the young man's friends? If he had that much to drink he must have been visibly intoxicated to the ships personnel, why didn't anyone intervene?
obviously you don't know that there are people that actually may bring their own liquor on board or be provided booze by their traveling companions
Very true, it can be snuck in. Although Carnival only allows 1 wine bottle per adult person, I talked to many people that had brought in hard liquor disquised in other bottles. He could of snuck it in himself, hopefully not.
Like someone else said, it's possible he drank in port. They don't ask for id in some of the ports...especially Mexico.
I know when my daughters were with me on a cruise, everytime she ordered a drink she had to produce ID. Carnival would never give alcohol to an underage person.
Ship sailed Feb 18 from NY on an 8 day cruise.
His body was found on the 26th at 3 am which appears to be the morning they would have docked back in NY.
According to that cruise's itinerary, the previous 2 days were "sea days".
Ship left Freeport, Bahamas 3 days prior to his body being found.
He was drinking on board.
