If you were on a Carnival ship and were undergoing a heart attack and could not pay for the helicopter to cart you to shore and had not purchased insurance, would Carnival just allow you to die onboard? I'll bet they would.
You're right. A normally prudent person would not cruise with Carnival after their abysmal performance.
Wasn't it a Carnival ship that passed by three guys in a boat who needed help and two of those people died? They are a fine one to mention that helping others at sea is customary. What a screwed up company.
boy you are showing again how little you know about cruising: the ship has nothing to do with evaluating a passenger. They are not the ones involved in air lifting and they have nothing to do with the financial situation. Where are you getting your idea anyway?

I repeat, that is why I am posting here, to avail myself of the wisdom of others. That's what people do when in a community.
Since I've never had the need to be airlifted I don't know the protocol. Do you - or someone in the industry who monitors forums such as this, maybe?
The Weather Channel show Coast Guard (AK/FL) show the CG going to cruse ships to medevac people in need of Higher level of health care off the Cruse ships.
The US tax payer picked up the tab for that also...

You're being ridiculous. No, they wouldn't allow you to die. They would still airlift you, and you would get a bill from the airlift company that you would be expected to pay. If you didn't, they would take the typical procedures to get their money--collections, judgement, garnishment of your wages, levy on your bank account, lien on your home.
It was not a Carnival ship, it was a CCL owned ship.

No they didn't. The US Government will send a tidy little bill to them, just like they do if you are a non-government worker and are airlifted out of a country due to civil unrest.

Where are you getting your information that the US Government picks up the tab? Why do you think we are all pushing people to make sure they have insurance? The government picks the people up; then they are billed thousands of $$s.

I read that article, as well. Carnival is refusing to pay for their rescue.

Where did you read this article? It helps when posting something that is fact if you post the source. Sometimes the source isn't correct, or is taken out of context, whatever. I do not know the situation in this case, so can not comment on the accuracy of the article. Assuming the information is true and it might be, this is another reason for carrying insurance. The cost is not the responsibility of the cruise line..
They're losing business. My husband read that some Carnival cruises are as low as $38 daily. I saw, on Vacations to Go, 7 days to the Bahamas or Caribbean for $429, that is $49.86 a day.
I read that they were (at least publicizing) bolstering their back up generators and toilets, just in case this happens again. They say they are doing this without interrupting their cruise schedules for these ships. Nothing about better stabilization or full double hulls, though, which would add to the actual safety of their ships.
