If you or a travel companion tests positive while on the ship, you will be imprisoned in your cabin for 6 days.
Your cruise will be destroyed.
In our experience, you have about a 1 in 10 chance of this occurring. Trust me, its not worth the risk at this time.
Is carnival testing people on the ship? I thought the only mandatory testing was 2 days prior to departure? We have a cruise with Carnival later this summer.

What they are doing today is not likely to be what they are doing in 2.5 months.
I was on the Valor out of NOLA in December - it was awesome and we still had to wear masks! It was a 4-day, no Plus. I like Forward (but honestly, I don't care cause I'M ON THE SHIP) because it's a little quieter. When choosing a room, keep in mind if you're under the Lido, close to elevators, under the galley etc. for noise problems. Inside rooms are quiet (mine was on Valor), dark and cozy and way more spacious than I realized and that was great.
Cozumel is a lot of fun but we haven't done any excursions yet. We always get the social Wi-Fi package because we use FB messenger to keep in contact with our animal sitter lol. Also, if you find your cruise's FB page, you can start mingling with the folks on your cruise and that's fun if you want to meet up or whatever. We don't drink enough for the drink package to be totally worth it but that may change, depending on the cruise. I agree about getting out and socializing instead of Netflix but I admit, when coming back to the cabin and winding down for the night, we might fall asleep to a movie we downloaded prior to the cruise.
Food options are aplenty, whatever your preferences. We did Chef Table on Valor and it was the best one we've had thus far. We were told that the menu they had for a couple of years was going to change this past March - not sure if it did or not. Totally worth it and you can wear nice pants/top or a dress - look nice not sloppy but I wouldn't say "elegant" unless you want to.
BUT...and you should have put this at the top of your post because ALL of your questions are a waste of time if you go into it not wanting to follow protocols. It doesn't matter if you think it's stupid, pointless or anything else. If you don't test (and anything can change between now and then), you don't go. Period. It's not a big deal - be mindful of your trip and it won't be a problem - and if it is, that's why you get trip insurance. Peace of mind is everything - also state of mind is important. If you think you're overpaying already, or you won't have fun cause you're solo, or whatever the reason, try to reset that thinking and know that Carnival is the Fun Ship - it really is.
The first couple of cruises, we didn't really join in or know what to do and while fun, we were missing out. It wasn't until our 3rd cruise (we've now been on 5) that we started going to all the shows, listening more to the cruise director, getting to know the Fun Squad, talking to people - sounds silly but talking to people from all over the country and the world is the highlight of every trip for me. Anyway, maybe rethink your testing policy and try to enjoy the trip you want to plan.
In that case, you've just wasted your time writing that entire post. Without a test, you're not going. And since you're eligible for a booster but haven't had one, that test must be TWO days before boarding (rather than the usual 3 days). https://www.carnival.com/legal/covid...uest-protocols
If you reconsider or cruise line covid policies change, you should look at Norwegian Cruise Lines. They have ships with sections of cabins specifically for singles without that single supplement. And post your questions on cruisecritic.com where you'll get many more replies.
The NCL website I saw yesterday, says they have removed all Covid restrictions. There might be some requirements if you are in other countries. I was looking in Alaska.

Youre correct, gentlearts. As have most (all?) Cruises lines. Some (many?) Ports still have covid requirements.
OP's trip was in July. I don't remember when the covid policies changed.
Just an observation...our hospitals and doctors offices have just dropped the mask requirement this week. Yay.
I know we live in similar areas and that hasn't been my experience so far. I went to two doctors offices this past week and both had signs on the doors stating that masks were required for entry, although interestingly, one office with several doctors stated that only a certain doctor's patients had to wear masks.

As a further follow-up, I have another medical appointment tomorrow with a different doctor in a different part of town and I was notified this afternoon that wearing a mask will be mandatory.
