Malcolm Scott Carpenter, one of the original seven Mercury astronauts who was forced to take manual control of his Aurora 7 capsule after running low on fuel in one of the scarier moments of the early space program, died early Thursday. He was 88.
One of the last remaining of the Original Seven astronauts of the Mercury program. I think John Glenn is the only surviving one now isn't he? Yep, reminds me of the movie and the book "The Right Stuff". I grew up with the space program as a kid, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab.....I was in my 20s when the shuttle probram started. Godspeed Malcolm Scott Carpenter.
