I am hoping that they keep her hooked up indefinitely and sue the bejesus out of the doctor who put her there due to his malpractice. That would seem fair to me.
People put too much trust in conventional medicine. I agree with the mother who said.... "The doctors think they know everything. We'll if they did, she wouldn't be here today". Touche mama.

Was it found to be malpractice? I didn't hear that.
If that's the case, why isnt the settlement paying for her care?

It is unlikely, in the extreme, that a civil lawsuit could be settled in only 12 months. Our next president will be giving his or her first state of the union address before anything happens with this case.
I heard the hospital was cleared of any wrongdoing but I could be wrong.
JerseyGirl,
Again was an actual case filed in CA? This situation can be really difficult to follow because there have been so many hearings and court proceedings that have zero to do with Malpractice vs. other legal issues the family raised.
I'm not an attorney so I could have easily missed some proceedings in a case I'm not actively following. I didn't know about the hearing this week until I read Spazkat's link. I believe it is more jurisdiction than much else.
We have so many pages starting maybe around page 18 - 58 with links to really good websites about this case. Court can always be a risk (Think about what Payton Manning stood to lose in Discovery and Deposition and how come so many various attorneys felt it was best not to sue for that awful story the chief source says is false. By filing suit the lawyers for Manning know his entire medical history and anything about his personal life or those of family members can be asked. Information can come out that hurts the person ( or members of the family) because those become public records. In the long run too, not just the present, often more potential damage to a person's reputation can happen.). You might want to check those pages earlier here for the MD, the Anesthesia links and one other were really good, IIRC.
I know if I were an attorney, I'd rather represent the ICU and Neurology MDS at the former Oakland Children's Hospital. Especially with all the national experts who have examined this patient. At Discovery and Depositions, details about the family will be probed beyond the obvious. We don't know things about these parents from five or ten years ago and their parenting methods, mental health and far more.
Good luck reading. There is so information about this case which started more than two years ago.

I am aware this is the right to life link. That being said I wanted to know what happened in court this week. Probably many more articles will follow. But this is 2016 information. The family wants her death certificate revoked. This is a Federal Court issue.
Christopher Dolan is the lead attorney for this portion, I believe. And the teen has a new doctor. Dr. Aleita Eck, an internal medicine specialist in NJ is now in charge. She, of course, believes there are signs of brain activity. I wonder how many other doctors turned down this opportunity.
Very honestly, I don't understand how Medicaid or any third party payor can be billed with a death certificate having been issued. Any thoughts?
Wow, the case that keeps on giving new experts and theories.
Looks like Dr Eck is at the Zarephath Health Center where free health care is offered to the poor and uninsured.
