The difference appears to be that although it is now technically illegal, the authorities look the other way in Mauritania. In the US, it is illegal and prosecuted.

I think slavery may be considered illegal in other countries- but many places nobody doing anything about it. It just is-- but for the picture they paint worldwide- they are all against it so they can sit n drink tea at the united nations and trade summits etc.

Arabs and Islam's have been engaging in a worldwide mass enslavement and slave trade of blacks and Africans since ancient times. And it's still going on today in Arab and Islamic and Muslim nations.

Dark(er) skinned, black people, people of African descent as well as Afrodescendants in all or many of these countries are often referred to as and called "abd" which means "slave".

slavery is still very alive and active under different conditions and for different reasons. I just hope there is a real HELL for the owners.

You know, I don't discount the seriousness of human trafficking. But the minute I hear the phrase "It is estimated" in any news report, my BS meter starts to redline in a serious, serious way. Because it is, almost without exception, a ginned up number in order to get attention from the media. And the media is typically too lazy to check the number out to see if it even remotely approaches reality.

I'll give you an instance in the early 80s when there was mass hysteria about child abductions. The level of paranoia was freaking crazy. At the center of all the panic was an FBI report that "estimated" that as many as 1,000,000 children were abduction victims in the United States. A million.

Nobody in any newsroom thought to open their copy of the US Census. Had they done so, they would have found that there were only 60 million minors in the entire country. That would be one kid out of every three school classrooms. Nope, they just parroted whatever numbers were in the press release.

How do they derive this number? I think it is a perfectly fair question to ask.

All the numbers are estimations- a numerical equasions with certain criteria. ... lets say for 12 mo they discover x people in one state that meets the criteria...and start multiplying n dividing. The cases are made public by the agency in some press release... the numbers are staggering, but victims are protected so- not much detail about them.. They find stash houses, and so forth. It is way too much info for this forum. but to give you a clue,,, do you think child porn is a a total of only 10 kids making 100,000,000 movies? that should give you an idea of the numbers.

Look, I'm in the media biz. I know how the numbers game works. That number is likely way higher than what the reality is.
