KOMO TV in Seattle lost two valued staff last week when their helicopter crashed close to the Space Needle. They are covering the mudslide, which has claimed at least 4 lives, like the other Seattle media.
I can't help but wonder if there aren't other housing developments in danger of a similar catastrophe. I wonder if the state or federal government has any plans to determine the likely cause of failure, and try to see if it can predict similar events before they occur.

Probably a lot of people are wondering similar type of questions. I'm not a trained expert in related professions so I don't know the answers to your questions. Hopefully, some who have knowledge of these situations can comment.
Today seems to be the first day there is much media coverage. I have to admit I don't know all the factors involved, but others may be. I don't know if the age of the structures more than location or multiple factors that all came together at the wrong time.
If it is my house I am not waiting to see what Gov. will do, I'd be get info myself as proactively as possible.
